What is a Blackjack Card Counting System?

Players can shift the odds in blackjack to their favor through a card counting system. Card counting is based on the idea that the cards Two to Six or the low cards improve the chances for the dealer to win. But the high cards or cards that are valued at ten (or eleven in case of an Ace) improves a player's chances for getting a winning hand in blackjack.

Obviously, if there are really more high cards in a deck, players will have more opportunities get a blackjack. This changes the odds of the game since casinos set the pay out for a blackjack at three to two.

A person who uses a card counting system will raise the size of the bets after estimating that the deck has lots of high cards. The size of the bets will decrease if a player employing a card counting system is able to determine that the deck is full of low cards.

A blackjack player doesn't have to be a genius to learn a card counting system. There is only a little bit of math involved in every card counting system. Basically in most card counting systems, the math comes into play when you determine the ratio of high cards and low cards. No, there is no memorizing of each card that is dealt during a game of blackjack.

There are different classifications of card counting systems. We can classify a card counting system as single level or multi-level. We'll describe a single level card counting system first.

A single level card counting system may be considered as one that is simpler and much easier to learn. Beginners are advised to start with these before moving to a more complex card counting system. In a single level system we assign a value of -1 to high cards and a value of +1 to low cards.

Basically you start with zero in a single level system, then when you see that a low card is dealt you add +1 to your total and -1 for every high-card. When that total goes up to a certain amount you increase the size of your bet, if it goes down you bet as low as the table minimum. An example of a single level system is high-low.

A multi-level card counting system works almost the same way, except that it would assign specific values to different cards or group of cards. A multi-level card counting system would include the use of the values +2 and +3 or -2 and -3.

A multi-level system is definitely harder to learn, but is more accurate. We recommend that you step up and learn multi-level card counting system after some experience.

A multi-level system relatively brings more results than a simple card counting system.

Learning a card counting system is truly an investment. You will realize that it is really worth it when you are able to shift the odds to your favor during a game of blackjack.
