Basic Strategy in Playing Blackjack

Blackjack is also known as Twenty-One. Originally called Vingt-et-un (21) in France, it become known to America as a military man's card game. Any number of people may play, one player is designated dealer and banker, and all other players bet against him. The object of the game is to hold a hand in which the sum of the card values totals twenty one, or as close as one can get without going over and being more than the dealer. Counting point totals is easy with the pip cards counted at their face values, face cards counted ten, and aces counted either one or eleven

One popular but easy technique for playing blackjack is what gamers call the Hit and Stand strategy.

The Hit or Stand is based on the multiple deck casinos policy of Atlantic City and Las Vegas. Blackjack regulations differ from different casinos, this makes learning blackjack tactics a bit difficult. Nevertheless, many moves are fundamental and basic that you can still apply to any casino.

- The objective of blackjack is to defeat the dealer's hand without exceeding 21.

- Face cards are worth ten. Aces are worth one or eleven, whatever makes a better hand.

- Each player begins to play with two cards; one of the dealer's cards is concealed and unknown until the end.

- The term 'hit' is to ask for another card while 'stand' is to hold your total until the end.

- If your cards go over 21 you are called 'busted' and you lose and the dealer wins no matter what.

- If you are dealt cards that total twenty one from the start (an Ace and 10) you have a natural blackjack. A Blackjack means you win a certain amount in addition to your bet depending on the casino.

- The dealer will hit until the cards sum is seventeen or higher.

- In doubling, the bet is doubled and you get one more card.

- Split is when you have similar cards, the pair will be split into 2 hands. Splitting also allows you to double the bet.

- You can only double or split on the initial move or the first move of a hand is a split.

- You are not allowed to play on two aces when they are already split.

- Split, tripling or quadrupling your stake could be a result when you double your a hand.
