Mechanical Jack

Automated machines are made to replace human dealers. It is one of the interesting casino countermeasures being put up.

The video blackjack as the automated blackjack machine came to be called was hitting casino floors in 1970-1980. They were thinking back then that it would be a hit. After all, blackjack was a popular game at casino. But it wasn't.

Video blackjack was not much of a hit because it didn't have as much jackpot as slot machines. The payoff is even rounded to the nearest quarter of one's bet.

This automatic blackjack machine operates on a simulated fifty-two-card deck that has been shuffled and dealt automatically. Play is begun with a deposit of a coin such as in slot machines. Some machines limit deposit up to 5 denominations of each coin. The sequence of play is according to standard blackjack game.

Players have the option to hit or stand on the hand they are dealt. The programmed dealer continues to draw automatically until it has a score of seventeen. When the dealer reaches that score of 17 or higher the dealer's hand will be compared to that of the player's. Payoff is then automatically released in accord with the score and amount of bet.

If the player makes a blackjack he or she will receive times two of his or her bet rather than the usual one and a half increase. These machines are approved and the card dealing is all done uncontrolled based entirely on luck.

If the player receives two or more cards with a total score of ten or eleven, the player may choose to double down or not. There is a button to press if the player decides to double down. With a hit the player gets one additional card to complete the player's hand.

The machine uses one deck and shuffles after every deal. By such a process card counting is hard to do. One technique is to take the last seat so the player gets to see the other cards. Also with this machine, doubling down is restricted to hard ten or eleven. Splitting is not even allowed.

Doubling down and splitting is guarded by strict regulations, the player's advantage is greatly reduced. But this is compensated when if the player gets a natural then his or her bet is doubled.

One suggested that in video poker hit on soft hand that totals to 12 until 17 disregarding the dealer's hole cards. Without consideration of the dealer's up card double down if one's hand totals 11.

Although video blackjack goes not give the edge to players through the counting card method, basic strategy has been known to lower the house advantage.
